Professional Experience and Theoretical Approach
My counseling approach to therapy is selectively integrative as I believe in meeting the client where the client exists, and tapping into theoretical approaches that allow for maximum personal growth. With roots in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Client Centered Therapy and Psychodynamic Therapy, I am able to balance solution based approaches with client focus models.
My extensive experience working in private and public schools, has provided a genuine comfort and skill set in working with children, teenagers, young adults, adults and families. A long time coach in various sports at the youth, high school and college levels, I have integrated my knowledge on the field with my understanding of psychological concepts to provide sports based counseling and mental strength conditioning. I have also found comfort and expertise in working with families in grief, couples work and generalized anxiety and depression. As people experience hardship and difficulty in their lives, I believe that reactions and behaviors are generally a result of how one thinks and feels about a situation. Every person has a choice as to how they handle what life presents them; guidance to find that path is at the root of my theoretical approach.
My professional experience has taken me into school’s all over the world and now into my private practice. I have served as a School counselor, administrator, teacher, advisor and coach. I have also spent summers working as director of camper care at a residential activities camp in the Poconos and worked as a crisis intervention counselor for the Children Psychiatric Center of NJ. It is through all of these experiences over the past 25 years that I apply what I have come to know into my practice.
